Baruipur Club: Colonial-Inspired Architecture in a Modern Context

Project Overview & The Adaptive Challenge 

Designed by SQUARE, the Baruipur project presented a highly specific architectural challenge: seamlessly converting an initial Experience Centre into the permanent club facility for a modern housing complex. This adaptive reuse required rigorous space planning to resolve structural and functional conflicts, ensuring the layout transitioned perfectly from a temporary sales showcase to a long-term, multi-use community hub.

The Design: Echoing Old Kolkata

The overarching aesthetic of the club is deeply rooted in the architectural heritage of "Old Kolkata." Recognizing that the central courtyard historically formed the beating heart of colonial buildings, we mirrored this spatial hierarchy in our design. To evoke the city's nostalgic charm, the architecture integrates authentic period elements, specifically utilizing intricate cast-iron grillwork and classic louvered fenestration.

The Interior: Heritage Meets Contemporary Function

Rather than creating a strict historical replica, the design bridges the gap between past and present. We balanced the traditional architectural shell with a vibrant interior execution, utilizing contemporary colors and modern visual elements. This thoughtful integration of eras resulted in a highly functional housing club in Baruipur that honors Kolkata's rich colonial heritage while perfectly catering to the dynamic, modern lifestyle of its residents.
