6,Ballygunje Place...Hospitality project
Kolkata I 2017
A collaborative design initiative by ADS Designs Pvt. Ltd. & Square. The homage to traditional art and culture was envisioned through some kitschy tweaking of colours and use of industrial products to represent traditional designs. The principal inspirations came from the paintings of Abanidranath Tagore ,Nandalal Bose and Lalu Prasad Shaw.Located in one of Kolkata's most storied addresses, 6 Ballygunje Place is a hospitality project that draws its identity from the cultural memory of the city. The design team at Square, in collaboration with ADS Designs Pvt. Ltd., chose to work with Bengal's rich visual heritage — the paintings of Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose and Lalu Prasad Shaw — reinterpreted through a contemporary hospitality lens. Industrial materials and kitschy colour treatments were deployed to echo traditional craft without replicating it, creating a space that feels simultaneously familiar and fresh. The project demonstrates Square's ability to translate cultural narrative into built experience — a design approach that has defined many of the firm's most recognised hospitality interiors in Kolkata. Completed in 2017, 6 Ballygunje Place stands as one of the firm's signature interior design commissions.
